Group Discord
We’ve been surfing around the various Plural tags on Tumblr. What we’ve noticed are a lot of posts filled with ranting over how this or that person is crazy or ranting over someone else’s opinions on them. I wish there were more posts where people felt self-assured with their existence, or were accepting and validating another.
Granted, it is definitely difficult to be part of a lifestyle that practically all of society frowns on or believes is delusional. But it only makes living this lifestyle more difficult and isolating when even someone within their own community puts them down.
Perhaps some of the worst critics and judgmental remarks come from within their own circle of like-minded people. Fictionkin dislike Soulbonders. Soulbonders dislike Multiples. Many Plurals dislike anything remotely labeling them “disordered”.
Discord is natural, but where is the hatred coming from? How can people outside of the Plural circle embrace Plurals and their differences if we can’t even embrace one another? I know that drama and wank-fests are the apparent norm on Tumblr, and maybe it’ll always be that way. Ranting on Tumblr could be an outlet for people to safely release the frustration in their lives. But what is safe about the bullying or the general meanness directed at each other?
It’s possible we have a fantasy view of how we would like to see people treat one another. Wouldn’t it be nice if a person’s automatic reaction wasn’t to punch and throw rocks, but to take someone by the hand? It’s a dream we’ll hold on to.
